Help For Heroes

Had the pleasure of shooting Damian Bourke again, who is doing his bit to raise money for charity Help for Heroes, pictured alongside Chris parkinson and son Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson who was seriously injured  serving with 7 RHA in Afghanistan. Its something really vlose to my heart as I served in the Parachute Regiment and worked alongside 7RHA on many occasions. Utrinque Paratus. Wish them all the greatest of luck in this challeng and please help them out in anyway you can.

Below is the official press release

Doncaster Orthodontist to cycle 3000 Across America for Help For Heroes

Damian Bourke, Principal Orthodontist at The Orthodontic Centre, will be part of a team cycling across America in aid of Help for Heroes.

The Strategic Lions Cycling Team have set the ambitious goal of winning and setting a new record in the gruelling and prestigious 2011 Race Across America (RAAM) team event, now in its 30th year. The team has been assembled and organised by Strategic Team Group (STG), a Yorkshire company.

Eight riders and eleven support crew will be joining forces as The Strategic Lions Team in RAAM to raise money for Help for Heroes. The cycling team includes STG staff Andy Watson and Stuart Loben, Sportscover Strategic Pro Cycling Team riders Ash Brown, John Tanner, Kev Dawson and Chris Last and Collin Humphrey as well as Damian Bourke, Doncaster Orthodontist. The race commences on 18 June in California and finishes around 5 ½ days later in Maryland, USA.

The support team will include Chris Parkinson of Parkinson’s Dental whose son, Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson was seriously injured in Afghanistan. He was serving with 7 Para RHA in September 2006 and is still the most severely injured soldier ever to survive.

Damian Bourke said “Help for Heroes is such a great cause and I am delighted to be contributing, especially in view of the fact that Ben is a local lad and the son of my friend Chris.  I have been very impressed with peoples’ attitudes and enthusiasm to back our effort for Help for Heroes. Wates are an excellent example of a company with a sense of responsibility and I am very grateful for their support.”

Wates Construction, currently building the town’s new Civic Offices and Campsmount Technology College, has already donated £200 to the race team for the Help for Heroes charity. Wates will also be opening the doors to its Civic Office site canteen to enable Orthodontic Centre staff to sell home-made cakes and help raise more funds.

The Strategic Lions Cycling Team is now actively seeking sponsorship and charitable donations from individuals, businesses and organisations who wish to be associated with this exciting and prestigious international event.  For further information, or to make donations, please contact Andrea Coley at The Orthodontic Centre on 01302 366466 or just call into the practice at 3 Chequer Road, Doncaster.

The Blues Band Shoot

Really lucky to have met up with the guys from this band as they are really talanted musicians,  and great fun to be around. Loved doing this shoot with them, whats not really apparent on the pictures is just how bloody windy it was on the beach. After the shoot I introduced them to Peroni a wonderful italian beer. What came as a shock was the bill for 5 beers. Look forward to hooking uop with you all when I’m over next.

How a shot ends up being used part deux

So a shoot in a tropical butterfly house, with top Doncaster nail technician Gemma Lambert sounded like a brilliant idea. The problem was that outside temperature was about -7 , my photogear in the boot of a cold car. Walk into an extremely humid Butterfly House end up with fogged lenses, fogged ccd sensors, my D3s were literally dripping with water. Waiting, and waiting form them to clear was going to take ages, so I grabbed all my gear and legged it to the toilets 10 minutes later after putting the lot though the hand driers, we were ready to shoot some pictures.

Trying to get snakes, and butterflies to perform was a minor miracle, a huge thanks to the models who braved the snakes:) it was a really enjoyable afternoons work, not without difficulties, but that what this game is about. So nice surprise to find that Scratch magazine had used one of the images not only as a front cover, but also did a nice photo feature as well. Result :) !!!

Doncaster orthodontic centre

Recent images from a shoot for the orthodontics centre. The centre wanted images for use in a brochure about their work. The idea was to show something a little less clinical, tended to use the 50mm macro for the majority of the pics as the shallow depth of field which gave some unusual shots. , all images shot with just available light.
